Beaches - Water Quality and Facilities

With more than 100 kilometers of coastline, the eThekwini (Durban) region offers beaches for everybody's taste. Whether your ideal beach is bustling with activities or quiet and secluded, we have the beach to suit your needs!

This website is intended to enable you to make choices and gives details of the facilities at each beach along our part of the coastline, as well as indicators of beach cleanliness and water quality. Every fortnight, samples are taken and water quality and litter information is updated. Target values and status assessments are in line with international beach quality standards. Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Enterococcus are indicators of faecal contamination from humans and other warm blooded animals.
